You'll need
- 3 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
- 1/2 tsp rasam powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
- A sprig curry leaves
- 1 dried red chilli
- Salt, to taste
- 3 cups water
Method
- Simmer the tomatoes, tamarind, rasam powder and turmeric in the water for 15 minutes.
- In a small pan, crackle the mustard seeds, cumin, curry leaves and red chilli in a little oil.
- Pour the tempering into the rasam and simmer 3 more minutes.
- Season with salt and serve hot, thin, almost like a broth.
