You'll need
- 1 cup curd (yogurt), whisked smooth
- 2 cups chilled water
- ¼ tsp roasted cumin powder
- A pinch of black salt, a few mint leaves
- 1 small green chilli, finely chopped (optional)
Method
- Whisk the curd with the water until smooth and frothy, or blend briefly.
- Stir in the cumin powder, black salt and chilli if using.
- Pour over ice, top with mint leaves, and serve immediately.
Why this dish
Curd thinned with water and spiced with cumin is considered a cooling drink in Ayurveda, which is why it's traditionally served after a spiced meal rather than alongside a light one, and often reached for on a very warm or heavy-headed afternoon.
